Chinese New Year Charity Luncheon 2010 - 24th February 2010

8th January 2010

Dear Members and Practitioners

Subject: Financial Planning Association of Singapore’s Chinese New Year Charity Luncheon, Wednesday, 24th February 2010

With the dawn of a new year, let me first extend my greetings for a very happy and blessed 2010 to you. As you all know, 2009 was a watershed year for the global and local economy. Similarly, charities and welfare organisations in Singapore and around the world have taken a hit with governments and corporations cutting back on their generosity.

To help fill this gap, and as part of our corporate social responsibility, the Financial Planning Association of Singapore plans to raise funds for the Assisi Hospice, our adopted charity for 2010, by holding a Chinese New Year Charity Luncheon on 24th February 2010 at 12.00 pm at the M Hotel.

I am writing to garner your generous support of this event. This is an excellent opportunity for those of us who have weathered the crisis with our livelihoods intact, to come together as an Association to help the needy and demonstrate our love and care for the less fortunate in society. This will help promote the reputation of FPAS and its members as “an Association with a Heart for the less fortunate in society.”

The Association hopes to raise about $50,000 for the Assisi Hospice via the Chinese New Year Charity Luncheon. The Luncheon also serves as a platform to bring members of the Association together to celebrate the Lunar New Year and network with one another. About 250 attendees comprising representatives from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, industry associations, financial planning practitioners and members of FPAS are expected to attend the Luncheon.

To keep practitioners abreast of industry developments and plans, the Luncheon will also feature speeches by our Guest-of-Honour and the undersigned.

We seek your generous support for the Luncheon. A table for 10 persons may be purchased at S$888 and is now open for bookings.

You may also make outright donations in aid of the Assisi Hospice. These donations will entitle donors to 2.5 times in terms of tax deduction. Please refer to the response slip for more information.

The Assisi Hospice offers a comprehensive palliative and hospice care service with inpatient, home and day care programmes for those faced with life-limiting illnesses. It has a 40-year history of providing such care for the needy.

In year 2009, 1138 patients, adults and children, together with their families were supported in its palliative and hospice care programmes.

The Hospice is dependent on government support and public donations to deliver its various services. In serving the public, it needs, annually, a sum of S$6 million. In the coming year, it will require mine, yours and the public’s support to raise a further S$4 million which it needs.

Your contributions, big or small, towards the Hospice will certainly help the patients to live the last leg of their journey in life with dignity and see their wishes fulfilled.

I seek your generous support for the patients of Assisi Hospice and look forward to seeing you at the Luncheon. We look forward to your reply before 18th January 2010. Should you require any further assistance or clarifications, please contact either Rebecca or Benedict at Tel: (65) 6372 1030.

Thank you in anticipation.

Yours sincerely,

James Sim
President
